Access to Safe Water

Access to water, both for human comsumption and for productive purposes is one of the biggest challenges to be faced and resolved in this area of Brazil. The lack of water in the semi-arid region is a dominant isolating factor that maintains people in the vicious circle of poverty. Apart from public initiatives such as Água para Todos (Water for All), people can also facilitate their acces to quality water. Humana has joint forces with Pastoral da Água, mobilizing organizing and supporting the families in their effort of getting connected to the public water supply. We have, up till now, participated in digging down the water tubes together with the inhabitants of different communities, on distances that vary from few hundred meters till seven kilometres. Community water tanks are being built and the communities clean their waterholes.
